Unified UX strategy, global digital architecture, and a scalable modular design system to modernize Sonoco’s enterprise web presence—bringing cohesion to a complex, multi-brand organization while enabling long-term growth, governance, and adaptability.
Sonoco required a modernized digital presence to align with its reputation as a global packaging innovator. With multiple business units, a legacy web structure, and evolving brand needs, the existing site lacked cohesion, clarity, and scalability. The initiative demanded an expert partner to define the UX vision, design a flexible system for future growth, and meet the technical standards of a global enterprise brand. The project entailed architecting UI/UX solutions for an internatioanl, enterprise level global business that had undergone year’s of mergers and acquisitions and required website strategy and an overarching content planning strategy solution.
Storm Brain led a strategic overhaul of Sonoco’s global website experience—starting with stakeholder workshops and deep discovery to align business objectives across diverse product lines and global audiences. We began by mapping the full user journey, auditing existing content structures, and identifying critical UX pain points across devices and regions. From there, we developed a future-proof design system rooted in modularity and scale. At the heart of the solution was a custom-built library of 65+ mix-and-match content modules—each designed for flexibility, visual consistency, and development efficiency. These components were designed and prototyped in Figma, layered with reusable design tokens and style variables to ensure easy adaptation by Sonoco’s internal teams and third-party developers. We defined global UI standards, established a cohesive visual hierarchy, and introduced UX best practices tailored for conversion and accessibility. Each module was built to meet WCAG compliance standards and support localization needs. Our system enabled seamless integration of new content, campaign landing pages, and product highlights—while reducing technical debt and simplifying governance for Sonoco’s internal teams. The result was not just a new website design, but a robust digital framework built to evolve with the organization.

The new design system and strategy unlocked a next-generation platform for Sonoco’s digital presence—creating clarity across global product lines, empowering internal teams with reusable components, and aligning the brand’s user experience with its market leadership. The system was built to be modular, flexible, and extensible—designed for the long haul.
